Email button will not open: provide another contact route
Understand mailto, offer a copyable address and contact page, and use WikiURL without confusing opening a draft with sending or delivering a message.

Identify what the button promises
You put Contact by email in an invitation and it works on your computer, but someone else sees nothing or opens an unexpected application. The consulted questions describe that difference and visitors without a default email client. Before changing servers, distinguish a link that prepares a message from a form processed by a website. A mailto link is neither an HTTP page nor a delivery service. MDN describes it as a way to open the user's email program for composition. A button named Send now can therefore promise more than it does. Name it for the actual action and provide another way to discover the address. Do not infer delivery from the appearance of a clickable control.
Separate the link from its handling application
Behavior also depends on the visitor's environment. Mozilla documents how Firefox can use a configured mail program or web service for email links. Working in your profile does not prove that another device has the same association. If users want to review preferences, refer them to official instructions for their browser or operating system and respect organizational policies. Do not try to force an application using invented schemes, disable protections or change other people's associations from a website. First confirm the published address and whether the received link retains its content. If the environment does not handle it, a visible alternative prevents the visitor's setup becoming a barrier to contact.
Prepare a small, reviewable example
The sample contains mailto, a fictional recipient and an illustrative English subject. The example.invalid domain receives no email: replace the address and subject with real values before use. RFC6068 defines the format and encoding of these links; the subject's spaces appear here as%20. Start with one recipient and a brief subject, without adding personal or confidential text to the URL. Check the resulting draft before adding more fields. Do not assume subject and body will be retained identically in every application. Preparing a message does not establish that the mailbox exists, accepts email or will be read by someone. Those are different checks, requiring evidence beyond merely opening the composition window.
mailto:[email protected]?subject=Question%20about%20the%20eventOffer a route independent of that mechanism
Show the email address as selectable text beside the button, allowing visitors to copy it into their preferred service. If you have a public contact page, link to it with a clear name and keep its instructions current. Offer a form only when it actually operates and has a responsible maintainer: an attractive page does not establish message processing. WikiURL can help distribute a short web address or QR to that page. Shortening does not install a form, configure email clients or turn mailto into guaranteed delivery. If the owner handles inquiries through WhatsApp, its generator can prepare that alternative channel. First confirm that the number is authorized and monitored.
Test the journey separately from the outcome
Use WikiURL's checker only for the public web page without secrets that you intend to share, recording the HTTP response and final URL. That result verifies neither an email application nor a mailbox. Test the button from the final message or document and observe what opens, which recipient appears and what subject remains. Do not send third-party messages as an unauthorized test. For a controlled trial, use your own or agreed accounts and check receipt in the relevant system. Opening a draft, the user's decision to send it and receipt are three different moments. RFC6068 provides for user control over sending. Do not replace that distinction with a supposed automatic action.
Separate draft opened, correct recipient, authorized send and observed receipt in your test sheet. Mark any stage without evidence as unverified. If you only test opening, record that without marking receipt. Add which alternative was offered when the link was not handled and whether the visible address could be copied. This sheet documents your trial; the fictional example has sent no mail and has not verified these stages for you.
Keep contact information understandable and current
Save the approved link, visible address, alternative page, date and trial result. When changing a mailbox or channel, also review invitations, QR codes and documents still circulating. Do not promise an immediate response or offer an unattended channel. If the link fails in a particular environment, collect application, device and observed behavior without asking for passwords or private message contents. A useful outcome lets people choose an operating contact route and understand whether they are opening a draft or using a web page. WikiURL helps with addresses and a messaging alternative. Email configuration, delivery and handling remain responsibilities of the systems and people operating each channel. Keep these responsibilities clear in the final instructions.
